March 2011 Richardson, Texas.  The Verizon Guard Service Center (GSC) is recognizing the performance of Arapaho facility's Paladin Security Officer Jeffrey Clayton.
Officer Clayton's professionalism and strong knowledge of Verizon's security procedures were noticed by the GSC's Ray Banks.  In an email, Mr. Banks wrote, "I conducted a post call-out inspection with Officer Jeffrey Clayton at 1201 E Arapaho Road.  Jeffrey has been a very professional and alert officer from my previous conversations with him.  He consistently notifies the GSC of issues involving medical emergencies and law enforcement on site.  My inspection today lasted 30 minutes without any indication of service issues.  He is very alert and knowledgeable stating he wants to perform at his best each day he is at work.  I would like to nominate Jeffrey Clayton at this time. "
GSC Supervisor Chris Conely added, "Officer Jeffery Clayton has been with Paladin Security since December 2009. When I have observed Officer Clayton working, he has always maintained a high level of professionalism in his interactions with Security's customers. He always has a positive attitude when he is at work."

Special Awards
Paladin Security Officer Damita McRuffin
of the Verizon Labs facility was selected by Verizon Security as the December 2010 winner of the Verizon Security Officer Outstanding Performance Award (SOOPA). Officer McRuffin received a SOOPA in September 2009 for her vigilance when monitoring alarms, and her positive attitude and dedication. Officer McRuffin's latest efforts were communicated to the Guard Service Center (GSC) by Verizon Security Manager Dale Pearce, who forwarded an Incident Report from November 23, 2010. At 3 a.m. Central Time, Officer McRuffin was stationed at the security desk when she alertly detected "a thump and footsteps on the roof of the building. "She investigated the situation, but did not detect any illegal activity. Still suspicious of the situation, Officer McRuffin notified the Denton Monitoring Center and the Security Control Center. While speaking with the Site Supervisor about the incident, Officer McRuffin again heard noise on the roof and contacted the Irving Police Department. She met the arriving police officers and explained the situation. The police officers searched the roof and property, but, like Officer McRuffin, detected no illegal entry or intruders. However, during the daylight hours later that morning, a closer investigation by the property management company indicated thieves did, in fact, access the roof during the night and attempted to steal active copper cables. Officer McRuffin's alert reaction and the investigations she and the police performed have been credited with preventing the would-be thieves from stealing the copper cables. Verizon Lead System Consultant, Greg Massie noted Verizon facilities and operations would have been severely and negatively impacted if the cables were cut. Without the temperature control provided by the Liebert air conditioning units on the roof, the Verizon Labs computer room would have shut down and required extended maintenance. This condition would have delayed the next release of the FiOS TV imaging and its executive trial. Also, the MacArthur Ridge computer room, which is land linked to Verizon Labs, would have been adversely impacted. Officer McRuffin's vigilance and alert reactions to security issues and alarm conditions over the past three years have capably secured operations at the Verizon Labs during the high-risk night hours.  Dale Pearce calls Officer McRuffin "and exemplary officer and dependable team player."

Officer McRuffin will be presented with a $200 SOOPA award - $100 from Verizon Security and a $100 matching gift from Paladin Security. In addition, Officer McRuffin will be candidate for the 2010 Verizon Security Officer of the Year Award.
